Hi world

This is week 3 of Prototyping. Today we had a lecture about experience mapping and design intent for our first assessment. Firstly, Vince told us about the mapping process. It shows us how to observe our user behaviours as much as we can. The method is the same process like Design Thinking.

After the lecture, Vince introduced us to the machines in the study room. He first taught my group to use the sewing machine. Actually, I used to use the sawing machine in my house quite a long time ago. Therefore, I understood how to use sawing machine easily when Vincent demonstrated how to use it.

When Vincent finished his demonstration, our group was moved to another room which was a laser machine allocated. Here, Brad taught us to use the laser cut machine and how to set the design in AI. He said the black space is for etching and the red line is for cutting.

Brad and the laser machine

Anyway, Brad also said if your work has different etching power, you must inform him again and he will help you to make it.

The last workshop is the 3Ds plastic printing. Brad showed us the machines and roughly explained how can we produce a plastic product.

What I learnt today:

  • How to use the sewing machine
  • How to set up .ai file to engrave in the laser machine
  • How to contact Brett and order materials for engraving
  • How to use the 3Ds plastic printing roughly

After class, I went to work for my part-time job and came home to study the folding model structure that related to my sketch. I found the folding pattern and tried it. The result is not successful because I might use a paper too thick and small. As you can see from the result, it could not be folded as I want.
